Rania Ezzat

Rania Ezzat, born in 1975 in Cairo, is an Egyptian artist currently living and working in Dubai. She studied fine arts in Egypt (Diploma at Helwan University, Cairo, 1998) and Switzerland (Diploma at HEAD, Geneva, 2007).

Since 2005 she has participated in a number of collective as well as solo shows in Europe and the Middle East, most recently in March 2010 in Dubai at the Bastakiya Art Fair and Carbon 12 Gallery. Her work is also shown at the Dubai International Finance Center (DIFC).

Her installations occupy space with force and grace. Along with her 4-5 meter installations she also works in other genres such as Drawing, Writing and Sculptures. Her very present and sometimes discreet urban installations are an important side of her art that manifests itself in different forms, evoking identity and memory using social symbols.

Influenced by the constant construction works she noticed when she moved to Dubai, she continued to present coherent installations using materials and symbols in yellow to evoke and pay homage to manual labour and the workers.

Ezzat also created more round, supple and mysterious shapes, fragile and transparent, radiating light to attract the spectator like a fly. This mystical side adds to her body of work, evoking eternal renewal and the re-emergence of life.
